Yellow Jackets best Union in gridiron battle
In a Thursday night defensive battle, the Union Yellow Jackets defeated the Leake Academy Rebels 13-6.
The first quarter was a snapshot of what the game would look like, a defensive struggle between the two teams.
It wasn’t until the 5:54 mark of the second quarter when the Yellow Jackets would break the scoreless tie. U’Darian Hickmon threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Lott. Samuel Alawine added the extra point.
The Yellow Jackets scored again quickly in the quarter. Hickmon found Keon Hutchins on a 37-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was unsuccessful.
The defensive battle continued into the second half and a scoreless third quarter.
Early on in the fourth quarter, Whitt Welch ran for a 96-yard touchdown to put the Rebels on the scoreboard. The PAT was unsuccessful.
Collin Rigdon and Cameron Jackson both recorded interceptions for the Yellow Jackets.
