The Union Yellow Jackets kicked off the 2022 football season by defeating the Choctaw Central Warriors 32-22 on Friday night.

The Warriors drove down the field and at the 6:11 mark in the first quarter and scored a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead after the successful PAT.

With 1:32 remaining in the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets’ Xavier Boler ran for a 38 yard touchdown. Ky’Yon Harris ran successfully for the two point conversion. At the end of the first quarter the score was Union 8 Choctaw Central 7.

The second quarter saw both teams score before the halftime. The Warriors responded with a touchdown at the 11:04 mark in the quarter. The PAT was unsuccessful. The score stood at Warriors 13 Jackets 8. At the 8:06 mark in the quarter the Warriors defensive unit sacked Union’s quarterback in the end zone. This defensive play made the score Warriors 15 Jackets 8.

As the second quarter began to wind down the sophomore quarterback for Union, U’Darion Hickmon completed a 16 yard touchdown pass to Ky’Yon Harris. They connected again on the two point conversion, changing the score to Union 16 Choctaw Central 15. That concluded all of the scoring for the first half.

Hickmon had not finished throwing touchdown passes. In the third quarter, he threw a 64-yard touchdown strike to Union receiver, Keon Hutchins. Once again Harris was successful completing the two point conversion by running to the pay dirt.

Union’s lead was extended to 24-15. There was no other scoring in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw both teams get the pigskin in to the end zone. At the 3:11 mark of the fourth quarter the Warriors scored a touchdown and an extra point. The score stood at Union 24-22.

The questions were, would Union hold on, or would Choctaw Central come from behind and win? At the 1:55 mark the question was answered by Harris of Union. He scored a three yard touchdown and Hickmon ran the quarterback keeper for a two point conversion.
