A Neshoba County woman was fatally injured in a one-vehicle crash on New Year’s Day morning on Mississippi 482, the, Mississippi Highway Patrol reported.

The woman, Nakeya Amos, 27, received fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to MHP Sgt. Jameka Moore.

“This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” Moore said.

On Sunday, Jan. 1, at approximately 10:00 a.m., MHP responded to a fatal crash on Highway 482 in Neshoba County, Moore said.

A 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 21-year-old Breanne Mingo of Philadelphia was traveling west on Mississippi 482 when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned multiple times.

According to Moore, Amos was an unrestrained passenger in the vehicle.

Moore said Amos was one of two fatalities reported by MHP over the New Year’s Holiday. The period concluded on Monday, Jan. 2, at midnight and began on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at 6:00 a.m.

Moore said the wreck here was one of 203 crashes investigated by MHP during that period that resulted in 54 injuries. The number of crashes statewide was up from 178 investigated during last year’s enforcement period.

The other death was reported as part of a multi-vehicle crash in Yalobusha County on Jan. 2, at approximately 12:20 p.m. when MHP responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 55 there.

Dennis L. Mudbone, 75, of Memphis was fatally injured in the incident and one other person was injured.

In addition to investigating the crashes, Moore said, MHP issued more than 8,000 citations statewide and made 164 arrests for impaired driving. Both totals are down from last year’s enforcement period.
