Winfred Ledale "Dale" Goforth
Dale was born in Leeds, Alabama, and spent much of his childhood living abroad, as his father’s work frequently took the family overseas. These early international experiences helped shape Dale’s naturally adventurous spirit and curiosity about the world, qualities that would stay with him throughout his life. He later spent much of his youth in Neshoba County, Mississippi, where he forged lifelong values rooted in family and community.
He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1971 with a degree in pharmacy and went on to devote his professional career to serving the community as a pharmacist at Harco Drugs in Gulf Shores, Alabama. A longtime resident of south Baldwin County, Dale was well known for his affable demeanor, his kind heart, and his dedication to his family. He and Charlice attended Freedom Church in Fairhope, Alabama.
Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Charlice Merchant Goforth; his sister, Sarah Hardy (Mike); his daughter, Leah Barter (Jimmy); his twin sons, Dax (Brooke) and Matt (Emily); and his cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Sydney, Lincoln, Major, Jack, and Luke. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and former colleagues who will remember him with love and gratitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred Goforth and Elizabeth Goforth Krumm, and his brother, Jim Goforth.
A memorial service will be held on July 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Rest in Foley, Alabama, with visitation there beginning at 12:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mobile Baykeeper (mobilebaykeeper.org), in honor of Dale’s love for the Mobile Delta and Gulf Coast.
