Wednesday evening storm downs tree limbs, knocks out power

City and county authorities said a Wednesday evening storm that rolled through Neshoba County knocked down tree limbs and caused power outages.

Philadelphia Utilities General Manager Kirk Morgan said the power went out about 5 p.m. Wednesday on East and West Myrtle streets as well as on Cumberland Avenue and Indian Hospital Road.

At the most 150 residential customers and between eight and 10 businesses were out of power during peak outages, Morgan said.

Power was fully restored at 8 p.m., Morgan said.

“We have experienced outages in different areas of town. As of now, everyone should be back on,” a Philadelphia Utilities social media post said. “We appreciate your patience.”

Neshoba County Emergency Management Director Darrell Wilson said that the county had no emergency calls come in during the inclement weather, though some power outages were reported.

“Concerning the storm that came through yesterday,” Wilson said. “We had no reports called into 911 or EMA of damage to structures. We did have several calls of trees down throughout the county. Some trees landed on power lines causing some power outages.”
