Weather postpones Philadelphia’s region opener

The Philadelphia basketball teams will have to wait a little while longer to open Division 6-2A play.

Both teams warmed up for division play on Tuesday as they swept Leake County. The Lady Tornadoes won 64-33 while the Tornadoes took a 62-49 win.

Philadelphia's other scheduled game with Newton High on Friday was postponed because of weather concerns. That game will be made up on Monday, Jan. 27 at Newton. Saturday's Invitational Tournament was also postponed because of weather and will be made up on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Philly will open Division 6-2A play this week as they travel to Scott Central on Tuesday and will host Lake on Friday.

The Lady Tornadoes blew the game open with a huge third period as they took an easy 31-point win over the Lady Gators.

The game was tight in the first half as Philly led 15-12 at the end of the first and 27-22 at the half. But the Lady Tornadoes put the game away in the third as they outscored Leake 25-0 to take a 52-22 lead going into the fourth.


Nia Luckett led Philly with 18 points while Shaunace Thomas had 13 points and Zharie Leflore added eight points.

The Tornadoes built an early lead and took a 13-point win over the Gators on Tuesday in their only action of the week.

Philly led 16-12 at the end of the first period and outscored Leake County 13-7 in the second to lead 29-19 at the half. Each team scored 19 points in the third period and Philly ended the game by outscoring Leake 15-11 in the fourth.

Jordan Hill led Philadelphia with 20 points while Tanner Boler had 16 and Ira Chambers added nine.
