Warriors start off season undefeated after 6 games

The Choctaw Central boys basketball team is off to a 6-0 start on their 2021-2022 season.

The Warriors opened with a 53-49 victory over South Pontotoc in the Choctaw Central Classic. They have also picked up wins over Neshoba Central 68-45, Quitman 55-53, Southeast Lauderdale 53-39, Kemper County 38-35 and Newton County 59-49.

The Choctaw Central girls stand at 4-1, with their only loss coming to Neshoba Central. The Lady Warriors have since posted wins over Southeast Lauderdale 74-21, Kemper County  58-23 and Newton County 70-35.

The Warrior teams have two games this week. They were to host Germantown on Tuesday and Newton County on Thursday.

 The Warriors jumped out to a 29-6 lead at the end of the first quarter in their game with Neshoba Central.

The Warriors outscored the Rockets 15-9 in the second quarter and led 44-15 at the half. The Rockets outscored Choctaw Central 30-24 in the second half. Haden Jones led the Warriors with 16 points while Abram Cotton added 14 and Johnny Vaughn scored nine. William Dreifuss led the Rockets with 12 points.

Leading 40-34 heading into the final quarter, Choctaw Central held off a fourth-quarter rally to win over the Quitman Panthers. Markekelus Mingo led the Warriors with 16 points, while Thomas Tangle scored 10 points and Vaughn scored 9.

The Warriors outscored Southeast Lauderdale 35-24 in the second half to take the victory. Jones led the Warriors with 11 points while Vaughn put in 10.

The Warriors held off the Kemper County Wildcats in the fourth quarter to take a victory. Elias Bell scored 12 points to lead Choctaw Central.Choctaw Central closed out last week with a 10-point win over Newton County. Tangle scored 33 points to lead the Warriors.

Lady Warriors

The Lady Warriors took a 53-point victory over former rival Southeast Lauderdale. Ashlyn Stephens led with 11 points while Mattison Bell scored 9.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and rolled over Kemper County. Bell led with 15 points while Tyra Billy scored 12.

A big second quarter settled the issue for the Choctaw Central girls in their game with Newton County. The Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Cougars 26-4 in the second quarter. Kylinn Bell led with 16 points and Mattison Bell scored 12.
