Called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, Mandy Cumberland said serving as a Love Out Loud ministry volunteer for the first time last week was meaningful and she wishes she could have done more.

“We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus and I was honored to be a part of it,” said Cumberland. “We serve to help others. I wish I could have done more days.”

Cumberland volunteered at Crisis Pregnancy Center along with three others where they pressure-washed the building and cleaned up the flowerbeds.

The purpose of the weeklong Love Out Loud event was to spread the love of Christ through giving back to the community and that goal was accomplished, organizers said.

“The volunteers worked hard, and it was a good turn out,” said David Addy, director of the Neshoba County Baptist Association, which organizes the event.

Love Out Loud is a week-long worship and ministry program in which approimately 180 volunteers participated this year by going into the community to do community service projects such as writing letters to the troops, presenting a puppet show for the elderly and helping do maintenance and repairs at parks.

Judy Bates, minister assistant for the Neshoba County Baptist Association, said the volunteers were eager to help the community of Philadelphia and many of them had also participated in last year’s inaugural Love Out Loud event

Tonya Hancock who was one of eight members from Grace Baptist Church to volunteer for the event and helped organize clothes at God's Closet on Thursday.

Hancock enjoyed the morning devotions, worship music and how co-directors the Rev. Dan Howard of First Baptist Church and Addy set up the booths for the volunteers to sign up.

Addy said the event will return next year.

“Thanks to the community for their support for being involved,” Addy said.
