A Vicksburg man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking after his arrest early New Year’s morning, the authorities said.

The man Trevae A. Wilson, 30, 321 Hatson Street, Vicksburg, was arrested and charged with trafficking of a controlled substance.

He was arrested early New Year’s Day and was released on $30,000 in bond on Jan. 3, just after 2 p.m.

Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said officers were conducting a safety checkpoint on Highway 16 west at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 1. 

During the checkpoint officers came in contact with a silver Honda driven by Wilson. According to Lyons, officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle while speaking with him. 

Officers then conducted a search of he vehicle and recovered marijuana and 84 dosage units of methamphetamine. Lyons said the marijuana was a relatively small amount but that meth was worth around $1,000.

“He was placed into custody and transported to the Winston County jail and booked in for trafficking Schedule II narcotics,” Lyons said.
