Veterans monument on the way
The committee replacing the Fallen Veterans Monument in Dewitt DeWeese Park destroyed in an April 2019 tornado didn’t wait long to place the actual order last week after the Legislature appropriated $50,000.
The state funds added with the money they had raised met the $100,000 goal.
The Committee to Replace the Fallen Veterans Monument met last Thursday and voted to place the order. On Friday, committee chair Ray Crocker and treasurer Cecil Hooker signed the order form and sent in with a down payment.
Picture This On Granite of Derby Lane, Vermont, will craft the monument and deliver and install it in Philadelphia.
“When they get this money, they will start buying granite and start processing it,” Crocker said. “They are going to have this monument installed by Nov. 5.
“We have to do dirt work, pour concrete and put in lighting – everything to be ready for it when it arrives. We are going to have a dedication ceremony on Nov. 11 on Veterans Day.”
The committee has listed below the names that will be placed on the monument. They asked if any friend or family member sees a misspelling of a name or believes a name should be added to call Ray Crocker at 601-663-6674.
“This will be our last chance to make corrections,” Crocker said.
