Both Union basketball teams started off the new year with Region 6-2A wins.

The Lady Yellowjackets took a 53-39 win over Scott Central while the Yellowjackets took a 43-37 win over the Rebels.

Union will return to action this week with a pair of big division contests. On Tuesday, Union will host Lake and will then host Newton on Friday. Union will also participate in the East Central Shootout on Saturday.

The Lady Yellowjackets overcame a slow start and went on to take a 14-point win over the Lady Rebels on Tuesday.

Scott Central led 10-9 after the first period before Union outscored the Lady Rebels 16-11 in the second to lead 25-21 at the half. Union pulled away in the third period as they Lady Yellowjackets used a 21-12 advantage to lead 46-33 going into the fourth.

Kamyia Russell led Union with 19 points while Keshona Smoot added 18 points.

The Yellowjackets pulled away in the fourth period and took a six-point win over the Rebels on Tuesday in division play.

Scott Central led 14-13 at the end of the first but Union tied the game up at 21-21 at the half. Each team scored eight points in the third but Union pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Scott Central 14-8 in the fourth to take the win.

J.T. Vance led Union with 19 points while Jamaal Taylor added nine points while E.J. Campbell added seven points.
