It was smooth sailing for Coach Jordan Wren and the Union Yellowjackets as they dominated the East Marion Eagles 35-0 in the first round of the Class 2A State Playoffs.

Union dominated on both sides of the ball. The Jackets forced four turnovers on defense and held the Eagles to 126 total yards.

Union’s offense was very potent, led by QB Kenyon Clay. He completed 15-of-24 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Clay had another big night with his legs. He carried the ball 15 times for 134 yards. This was Clay’s second consecutive game with three rushing touchdowns. Jaylon  Buckley had another solid performance. Buckley ran the pigskin, tallying 15 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Markus Jones led the UHS receiving unit with six receptions for 94 yards and a 28 yard touchdown reception.

Meanwhile, the Jacket defensive line had another strong performance for the Yellowjackets. Peyton Posey was once again a stone wall for the defense. Posey tallied 6 tackles and 3 were tackles for loss. Ky’Yon Harris and Cameron Jackson each collected an interception in the win.

Union improves to 8-2 in 2020 and they advance to Round 2 of the playoffs, while East Marion ends their season at 3-9. UHS will hit the road to take on Wesson in the second round of the playoffs this Friday night.
