A Union man has been arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a 17-year-old Scott County girl reported missing in March, Sheriff Eric Clark said.

Alex Harrell, 46, of 10550 Road 115, Union, has been arrested and charged with the rape.

Clark said Harrell has been denied bond as he was already out on a bond on November charges in Neshoba County of possession of a controlled substance and impersonating a police officer.

The rape arrest stems from an incident reported on March 19 around 6:30 when deputies responded to a call placed by the victim near the intersection of Road 305 and Road 307 in the southern part of the county.

Clark said the victim was identified as a girl who had been reported missing on March 17 by Scott County authorities. Clark said she was missing about 36 hours at the time she was picked up by Neshoba deputies.

When deputies picked her up she said she had been raped at a mobile home on Road 305 by Harrell. She said Harrell had picked her up on March 17 in Scott County.

Clark said his office then opened an investigation that included interviews and DNA evidence that led them to arrest Harrell on June 16 at the Road 115 address where he had his mobile home parked. Clark said they arrested him the day they got the results back from the state Crime Lab.

“That is a pretty speedy turnaround to get DNA results back from the crime lab,” Clark said.
