The Tylertown Chiefs came calling to compete against the Union Yellow Jackets in the second round of the state football playoffs.

As the temperature fell on Friday night, so did the hopes of the Yellow Jackets as Tylertown defeated Union 20-8.

On the opening kickoff, Tylertown’s Jordan Anthony ran 80 yards to pay dirt and put up the first score of the ballgame. The Chiefs quarterback Amerion Jefferson ran for the successful 2-point conversion. The score was Tylertown 8 Union 0.

With 4:50 to go in the first quarter, Kenyon Clay found Xavier Boler for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Clay scored the 2-point conversion and tied the score at 8-8.

The Chiefs responded quickly with another score when Jefferson found Dillon for a 41-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion attempt failed and Tylertown led 14-8.

The defensive units of both teams made their presence felt in the second quarter. There was a carousel of punts between the two teams until the last 19 seconds of the first half. Jefferson completed a touchdown pass in the back of the end zone to Lampton. However, the 2-point conversion was once again denied by the Jacket defensive unit. The score at half-time was Tylertown 20, Union 8.

The third quarter began with Union receiving the kickoff. The defensive side of the ball took control in the third quarter. Neither offensive unit was able to move the ball successfully during the quarter. The third quarter concluded with a score of 20-8.

The last quarter of the game was a carbon copy of the third quarter. The defensive units for both teams were dominant. The final possession of the game belonged to Tylertown. With 2:04 left on the clock, the Chiefs were able to maintain control of the ball and run out the clock. With the victory, the Chiefs advanced to the third round of the playoffs, where they will compete against Raleigh on Friday night. Tylertown improved to 12-0 on the season, while Union finished the season 5-7.
