Union captures District Championship over Morton
The Union Yellow Jackets captured the Region 5 3A District Championship after defeating the Morton Panthers 17-14 in a battle that was decided in overtime.
Ky’Yon Harris returned a Panther interception for a touchdown in the early first quarter to put the first points on the board. With 6:46 remaining in the second quarter Zachary Ealy ran for a 22-yard touchdown to tie the game headed into halftime.
Early in the third quarter U’Darion Hickmon found Keon Hutchins for a 40-yard touchdown pass to give Union a 14-7 lead.
The Panthers completed a drive with a successful 3 yard run to paydirt to tie things up in regulation play.
In overtime, the Panthers fumbled the ball on the very first play. Three offensive plays later, Samuel Alawine kicked a 32-yard game winning field goal. Union completed the regular season with a 8-2 record and 5-0 in district play.
