Friday night brought one of the highest scoring games in Union High School football history as Coach Jordan Wren and his Yellowjackets defeated the Wesson Cobras 64-44 in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs.

 This offensive shootout led to Union advancing to the third round of the football playoffs. They will visit the Taylorsville Tartars. Taylorsville, 9-1, defeated Philadelphia 47-6 Friday night.

UHS star quarterback Kenyon Clay had the game of his life, carrying the pigskin 21 times for 261 yards and four long touchdown runs. Clay connected with his star receiver Markus Jones seven times for 161 yards and two touchdowns.

Union running back Jaylon Buckley carried the ball 21 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns in the big win. Union outgained Wesson in total yardage 550-361 and rushed for 389 yards as a team for the night.

Wesson quarterback Will Loy completed 24 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cobras in a tough season ending loss.

Union improves to 9-2 in a great 2020 season, while Wesson’s season ends at 8-3. The Jackets have a travel date with powerhouse Taylorsville Tartars in the third round on Friday night. The winner advances to the South State championship game for Class 2A.
