Two arrested in Union drive-by
Two Philadelphia men were arrested earlier this month in connection with a drive-by shooting late last year in Union.
The men have been identified as Andrew Devlin Carter, 21, and Quorzaus Ja’Tece Black, 18, both of Philadelphia, according to Union Police Investigator Joshua Grimes.
Both Carter and Black have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and were transported to the Newton County Jail.
The charges stem from an incident in which gunfire was exchanged between vehicles traveling along Martin Luther King Drive in Union late on the night of Sunday, Dec. 29. Grimes said. One vehicle was struck with gunfire, but no persons were reported injured in the incident.
“Authorities have confirmed that Carter and Black are not the only alleged participants in this incident and that additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues,” Grimes said.
Police Chief Eric Lyons said PPD assisted in the arrest of Carter here at a residence on the 500 block of Valley View Drive around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3. Lyons said they assisted The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation in serving a warrant alongside members of the Union Police Department.
Grimes said the warrant led to the recovery of multiple firearms and ammunition.
“The Union Police Department extends its gratitude to Chief Eric Lyons and the Philadelphia Police Department, as well as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, for their crucial support and ongoing collaboration in this matter,” Grimes said.
Grimes said Black surrendered to Union Police “shortly after” they arrested Carter.
