A Tucker man died in a second fatal wreck on Highway 19 last week.

Christopher “Ike” Chickaway, 56, died in the head-on collision Wednesday, Sept. 15, at about 9 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

Chickaway loved helping others, cutting grass and fixing cars, his family said.

He was laid to rest on Sept. 18 in Holy Rosary Cemetery with Father Bob Goodyear officiating.

Preliminary MHP reports indicate that a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Chickaway was traveling north on Highway 19 while a 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor driven by Fletcher was traveling south.

The Chevrolet Suburban and Mitsubishi Endeavor collided head-on. Chickaway was pronounced dead on the scene.

Fletcher was transported to Jeff Anderson Hospital in Meridian. The crash is currently under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, spokesman Sgt. Jameka Moore said.

The accident happened in the same vicinity as a fatal crash last Tuesday that claimed a 21-year-old Philadelphia man. (See story, Page 7A.)

There have been five other fatal wrecks on Highway 19 this year between Philadelphia and House.
