Trio arrested on meth charges

Three people have been arrested on meth charges following a traffic stop Friday on Highway 21 north after two them were found to have active warrants, the authorities said.

One of the passengers, Tommy Cotton, 31, 207 Tiak Chitto Road, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff Eric Clark said Cotton also had two contempt of court warrants and a warrant for failure to appear in court.

Also arrested was, Dwilette Tubby, 40, 111 Cobblestone Road, Walnut Grove. She was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Clark noted that Tubby also had two warrants for failure to appear in court. Tubby has been identified as the driver.

Briana Martin, 33, 359 Lagoon Road, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

She remains in custody on a $15,000 bond.

Clark said the trio was arrested when Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a Chevy Trail Blazer, dark in color, on Highway 19 north almost to the county line at 7:30 p.m.

Clark said officers noted that the driver, Tubby, had a suspended license. Deputies soon discovered that Tubby and Cotton had five outstanding warrants between them as well.

A further search conducted at the driver’s consent revealed paraphernalia and a bag of meth containing more than 10 grams. Clark said crystal methamphetamine can go for about $50 a gram. Tubby then admitted to deputies that all three suspects had been smoking meth while in the vehicle.

“This is a prime example of what does not need to be on our roadways,” Clark said.
