Tribal schools go remote, Philly, Neshoba, others closed Monday facing snow threat

Periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain possible

Choctaw Tribal Schools will operate using distance learning on Monday due to potential inclement weather conditions including snowfall and ice, officials announced on Facebook Sunday.

• Neshoba County Schools announced Sunday evening that out of "an abundance of caution," they will not have school on Monday due to possible hazardous weather conditions.

• Philadelphia Public School District will be closed on Monday due to the possibility of inclement weather and hazardous road conditions, officials said in an announcement about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

• Leake Academy will close on Monday, the school said on Facebook.

• Union Public Schools announced students will return from break on Tuesday, Jan. 12.   UPS staff will report on Monday at 10 a.m., officials said in a Facebook post.

Tribal schools will resume Tuesday at normal times with an adjusted hybrid schedule: Hybrid Group A students will come to school Tuesday/Wednesday and Hybrid Group B students will come Thursday/Friday.

The middle school basketball tournament hosted at Choctaw Central High School has been postponed until Tuesday. Games will resume at regularly scheduled times.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued until noon on Monday, Jan. 11. This means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. See the NWS radar for the latest.
