Tornadoes pick up a pair of region victories on court

The Philadelphia Tornadoes scored a pair of Region 6-2A victories last week in prep basketball action.

The Tornadoes opened the week with a 57-37 win over Scott Central, and then defeated Lake 54-17.

The Tornadoes stand at 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the region.

Philadelphia led Scott Central 25-18 at the half. Devontae Scott led with 16 points while J.J. Hudson scored 12 and Boogie Bingham scored 11.

Lake was no match for the Tornadoes who went up 32-11 at the half. Bingham led with 15 while Scott and J.J. Hudson both scored 10.

Philadelphia was to visit Newton High on Tuesday and then will be home Saturday to play East Webster. The girls game will start at noon followed by the boys game.

Lady Tornadoes

The Lady Tornadoes dropped two games last week. They lost a 63-52 decision to Scott Central and a 58-54 loss to Lake.

Zharia Clemons scored 25 points to lead the Lady Tornadoes in their loss to Scott Central. Jaenasha Clemons added 14 points while Jaiden Burnside and Shaytrece Mingo both scored six points. Markasia Dupree scored one point.

Zharia Leflore led the Lady Tornadoes with 15 points in their game with Lake. Clemons added nine points; Burnside put in 11; Emma Taylor seven; Dupree five, Shaytrece Mingo four and Zariyah Jackson three.
