The young Philadelphia Tornado football team ran out of gas in the second half as they dropped a 21-10 decision to Leake Central in Carthage.

The Tornadoes, 0-       , will be home this Friday night against Noxubee County. The Tigers come in with a 1-0 record after opening the season with a 39-0 win over Shannon.

Philadelphia went up 7-0 in the first quarter when Kornelious Triplett scored on a 12-yard run out of the Wildcat offensive formation

Later in the first half, Connor Long kicked a 16-yard field goal and the Tornadoes led 10-0 at the half.

Leake Central came back in the second half to score three touchdowns and take the victory.

“We had eight people starting on defense who have never started,” Coach David Frey said. “We had five kids going on both sides of the ball, Two had been quarantined and came back Wednesday. All the ones playing both ways got wore out. When they came out for a break, we had to play some younger kids.

“This is a very young team. It’s going to take two our three games to get really ready to play. We are playing a tough schedule to help get us ready for our district competition.”
