Tornado track stars bring home state titles
Philadelphia track and field saw two runners bring home state titles at the MHSAA 2A Track and Field State Championships at Pearl High School, while also putting together a strong team performance in the event.
On the girls side, senior D’Kota Hudson won the 100 Meter Dash title, running a 12.38, after finishing second in last year’s race.
Hudson also won the 200 Meter Dash, running a 25.67. She also finished second in this race last year, before claiming this year’s title.
On the boys side, senior Kawan Powell won the 400 Meter Dash title, finishing with a time of 50.01. Powell finished fourth in the same state final race last year, before winning this year’s title.
Other notable finishes for the Tornadoes include Bryson Boler, who finished fourth in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.02.
Denario Hughes finished fourth in the Shot Put finals, with a 41-foot, eight-inch throw.
The Philadelphia 4x400 Meter Relay team also finished fourth in their state title race, with a time of 3:32.58. The team finished fifth in this race at last year’s state championships.
