Robert Lee Thomas was appointed to fill the vacant position of County Prosecutor Monday during a regular meeting of the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors.

The position became vacant after Caleb May was elected Circuit Judge in November. He assumed his new position Monday.

Thomas, of the firm Alford, Thomas and Kilgore, will fill the role of County Prosecutor until a special election can be held in November.

In other matters, supervisors voted to:

• Approve quarterly budget allocations to the sheriff’s department ($372,350), and the jail ($327,125). Supervisors also reappointed the fire investigator, and accepted a $10,000 donation from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

• Approve the termination of a temporary employee from the road department, and the reimbursement of $80 to Kadden Goforth;

• Approve a permit request through the county engineer for AT&T to place fiber cable along and across Road 561 and Road 612;

• Approve the quarterly budget allocation for the Tax Assessor/Tax Collector’s office ($109,682);

• Approve the removal of several obsolete/defective pieces of office equipment from the circuit clerk’s office;

• Approve the FY2021 Performance Grant for the Emergency Management Department;

• Approve the continuance of the emergency declaration from declaration because of the COVID-19 pandemic;

• Approve the appointment of Bob Henson to the North Bend VFD board of commissioners;

• Accepted a proposal from Yates Construction for a roof repair on the Neshoba Coliseum;

• Approve the county employee payroll ending December 28 and totaling

$189,210;

• Approve the elected officials payroll ending January 1 and totaling $38,859;

• Approve the claims docket, the out of claims docket and the purchase clerk’s report for December 2020;

• Approve January 18 as a state holiday;

• Approve authorizing pre-construction engineering the for County Road 210 bridge project;

• Approve employment and contracts of the board attorney and county engineer for 2021;

• Authorize the disbursement request to BancorpSouth for new police interceptors; and,

• Approve the annual road inspection reports due to the chancery clerk’s office. Supervisors also approved the annual update to the county road plan.
