Test prep helps increase Philadelphia ACT scores
Jumpstart Test Prep announced the ACT exam improvement results from Philadelphia High School’s students spring test date following the classroom implementation of the Jumpstart Review.
Of the students having at least one prior ACT score for improvement comparison, 56 percent improved prior best ACT Composite score by an average 2.40 points, and in each subject area, the students’ scores improved by 78 percent in Math (+2.80 pts. avg.), 89 percent in Science (+3.38 pts. avg.), 55 percent in English (+1.60 pts. avg.), and 67 percet in Reading (+2.50 pts. avg.)!
Top achievers were recently recognized and include:
• Jahendrick Evans (Math +5 pts., Reading +5 pts., and Composite +3 pts.)
• Sandra Gray (Scored a 20 on first attempt)
• Alexander Menchion (Science +7 pts., English +1 pt., and Composite +3 pts.)
• Jar’Dan Sanders (Science +6 pts., Reading +4 pts., English +3 pts., and Composite +3 pts.)
• Journee Willis (Math +5 pts. and English +2 pts.)
“Jumpstart helped me with my English, it was my first time taking the ACT, and I made a 20, which is good,” Gray said “It helped me the most with sentence structure and punctuation.”
These improvements are not possible without the diligence and support of the teachers tasked to help raise scores at Philadelphia.
The guidance and encouragement of administration also plays a huge role in raising scores.
Jumpstart Test Prep is an online review program based on over 50 years of work by Dot McClendon, a legendary educator and Mississippi's 19-year STAR teacher Hall of Fame inductee.
"As a teacher at The Mississippi School of the Arts and several other schools during my career, I was able to help guide the preparation of students in person," said McClendon. "Now through our online, on-demand video review, students in Philadelphia classrooms, as well as classrooms around the country, around the breakfast table, or on the couch at home, are able to benefit from our approach."
