Emma Taylor has been named STAR Student for Philadelphia High School for the 2020-2021 school year by the Mississippi Economic Council M. B. Swayze Foundation, sponsor of the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program. The Mississippi Economic Council established the STAR program in 1965 to recognize outstanding students and teachers in Mississippi.

Taylor will be acknowledged with over 300 other STAR Students from Mississippi high schools for their academic achievements. Taylor was selected as STAR Student based on her American College Test (ACT) score of 27 and her scholastic averages.

Each STAR Student selects a STAR Teacher, which is a teacher that has greatly impacted the student’s scholastic achievements. Emma chose Anne Fisacerly as her STAR Teacher.

“I chose Mrs. Fisacerly because she was my ACT Prep teacher, and she helped me bring my English test score up to a 34,” Taylor said.

Emma is the daughter of Mark and Amy Taylor, and she attends Holy Cross Catholic Church. She is a member of the PHS basketball, cheerleading and fast pitch softball teams. She is also a member of the Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America and Junior Auxiliary Crown Club. Last year, Emma participated in Leadership Neshoba, and she served as Senator Jenifer Branning’s Page. Taylor is undecided on a college and major at this time.
