Two state of emergency declarations were ratified by the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors on Monday during their regular board meeting.

The supervisors voted to ratify a Local Emergency for Severe Winter Storms that board President Kevin Cumberland declared during last month’s winter storms. And supervisors continued the emergency declaration for the COVID-19 Pandemic until March 15.

In other action, supervisors voted to:

• Approve a raise for Julian Willis, Choctaw language coordinator for the Sheriff’s Department. Supervisors also approved the deletion of two cameras from the sheriff department’s inventory list;

• Approved the hiring of David Johnson for the jail;

• Approve a request for supplemental salary for assistant district attorney Mitch Thomas in the amount of $6,000;

• Approve a school bus turnaround for the Neshoba County School District at 10219 County Road 646;

• Approve a request from the Union Public Schools for assistance with demolition and disposal on 16th Section Land.

• Approve the transfer of Emergency Management Vehicle to Ambulance Enterprise;

• Declare a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Truck belonging to the Road Department a total loss;

• Approve the acquisition of a new 2021 Ram 3500 Cab & Chassis Truck costing $35,010 from Griffis Motors;

• Approve a refund request of $100 for the multi-purpose room rental at the Neshoba County Coliseum;

• Approve $17,500 for 2021-2022 Election Systems & Software Support & Maintenance agreement;

• Approve paying Wade White $139,750 for acquisition of real property;

• Accept the 2021 Commercial Rubbish Annual Report to MDEQ for Neshoba County Rubbish Landfill;

• Approve payment of Solid Waste Disposal Fee for FY2020 — $1,936.25 and the authority to invoice city of Philadelphia for same;

• Ratify the hiring of Pritchard Engineering for site planning, boundary survey and mapping, a Phase I environmental, geotechnical investigation, civil site design, foundation design and testing for new spec building in the Industrial Park; and,

• Approve hiring PryorMorrow for Architectural and Engineering Services for new spec building in Industrial Park. 

• Supervisors received a letter from the Mississippi Department of Archives & History, notifying them that Booker T. Washington School will be considered for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places during a Mississippi National Review Board Meeting on March 18.
