Supervisors begin working on next year’s budget

County supervisors have begun work on the next year’s budget.

All county department budgets were due at last Monday’s meeting.

“We will be assembling that information and putting it together,” County Administrator Jeff Mayo said, “We are putting projected revenues together with projected expenditures and we’ll see where they meet.”

In other actions, supervisors voted to:

• Accept the resignations of four corrections officers from the jail. Supervisors approved the hiring of two new correction officers and granted FMLA leave for another;

• Approve an order to seek bids for herbicide for spraying the sides of roads. The county did not receive any bids when they advertised earlier this year;

• Approve a letter to the

Mississippi Office of State Aid Road Construction explaining why certain funds had not been used yet;

• Approve the $193,719 payment to Site Masters Construction for work on Road 236. The board also approved a change order on the project. Substitutes were made for materials that were not available. Also, additional areas of the road had to be exuviated and additional hot mix asphalt was needed. 

• Approve the payment of $9,785 to Crowder Engineering for its work on the Road 236 project;  

• Approve the final order for an exemption of ad valorem taxes for Viking Metal;

• Accept a bid for the refurnishing of the County Line Volunteer Fire Department’s 1993 Freightliner pumper. Emergency Vehicles Services of Tupelo bid of $28,500 included work to pack the pump, update the warning lights, and work on the gauges and modernizing the labeling.

• Approve Emergency Management personnel attending the  State Fire Coordinator meeting at Lake Tiak O’Khata on August 3;

• Approve Emergency Management personnel attending a 40-hour Basic Tele Communicator course August 1-5 that the Oktibbeha County EOC. The course fee is $395;

• Approve the county employee payroll ending July 11 and totaling $266,239;

• Approve the elected officials payroll ending July 15 and totaling $48,173;

• Declare the County Annex/Justice Court building project substantially complete;

• Approve a $225,705 change order for the Taylor Mast building project in the Industrial Park. The door size changed from 30 foot wide by 25 foot tall to  25 foot wide by 45 foot tall;

• Approve the payment of $184,328 to Century Construction for work on the Taylor Mast building;

• Approve the payment of $9,000 to Allen & Hoshall for their work on the Burnside auditorium;

• Approve applying for the Mississippi Voting Modernization Act Grant Program; and,

• Approve a memorandum of understanding with the Linwood Volunteer Fire Department for use of the community center.
