Supervisors approve $15M budget for upcoming year

The Board of Supervisors approved a proposed $15.4 million county budget during their Monday meeting.

The budget totals $15,390,000, an increase of $542,233 when compared to the current fiscal year. County government operates on 60.80 mills in the current budget and that is expected to stay the same.

Supervisors also approved the ad valorem tax requests for the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year budgets from the Neshoba County School District ($5,259,371) and the Union School District ($436,971). That has not been calculated into millage.

The budget will be published in The Neshoba Democrat. There will be a public hearing for comments on Sep. 14. Afterward, supervisors will vote on whether to pass the budget.

Supervisors considered proposals of a new garbage truck and adopted the Revised Health Insurance Plan for FY2021.

In other matters, supervisors voted to:

• Approve the submission for an application by the Sheriff’s department for an Impaired Driving Grant totaling $30,160.

• Supervisors also approved the hiring of Patrick Burt as a deputy sheriff;

• Approve the minutes from the past meeting, and the claims docket;

• Approve for the Tax Collector/Tax Assessor to advertise Real and Personal Tax Rolls maintenance for 2021-2024; and for Annual Map Maintenance;

• Approve the continuation of the COVID-19 emergency declaration;

• Approve the payment of $500 to Allen & Hoshall for the CDBG-PF engineering services;

• Approve a 50-cent an hour pay increase recommendation for a Justice Court employee. Supervisors also approved an FMLA leave request for another;

• Approve the county payroll ending Aug. 10 and totaling $155,663; and,

• Approve the elected officials' payroll ending Aug. 15 totaling $40,950.
