State championship dreams alive for some
Multiple local baseball and softball teams are in the thick of postseason play and are progressing further, in hopes of competing for a state championship.
Neshoba Central baseball has split the first two games of their first round series with South Panola, winning 3-2 in game one and falling 6-1 in game two. The Rockets are now 20-12 on the season and will play the deciding game three of their first round series on Tuesday night, with results unavailable at print time.
Neshoba Central softball swept their first round series against Center Hill, winning 13-5 and 18-6. The Lady Rockets are 20-7 on the year and will play Grenada in the second round, with game one set for Thursday at 7 PM at Neshoba Central.
Choctaw Central softball won two out of three over Caledonia in their second round series to advance to the MHSAA 4A quarterfinals. The Lady Warriors are 18-8 on the season and will play Tishomingo County next, with game one set for Thursday at 6 PM at Choctaw Central.
Union softball swept their second round series over Calhoun City, winning 12-2 and 12-1. The Lady Yellow Jackets are now 19-10 on the season and will play East Union in the 2A quarterfinals, with game one set for Thursday at 6:30 PM at Union.
Leake Academy baseball swept their first round series over Starkville Academy, winning 4-3 and 7-2. The Rebels are now 22-6 on the season and will play Lamar School in the second round of the MAIS North 4A tournament, with game one set for Tuesday at 6 PM at Lamar, with results unavailable at print time.
