Special Chancery election set in Neshoba County
Gov. Tate Reeves today announced that he has set six special elections, including the Sixth Chancery District that includes Neshoba County.
Chancellor Joseph Kilgore of Philadelphia announced that he would leave the bench on July 31. He has accepted a position as Counsel for the law firm of Watkins & Eager, PLLC, in its Jackson office.
Judge Kilgore served the Chancery Courts of the Sixth District for 14 years. The district includes Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Kemper, Neshoba, and Winston counties.
Two of the other special elections are for the Mississippi House of Representatives, three are for trial courts, and one is for district attorney.
The two special elections for House District 23 (Calhoun, Lafayette, Pontotoc, Webster Counties) and for House District 82 (Lauderdale County) will be held on March 25. The qualifying deadline for these elections is Feb 3.
The three special elections for trial courts will be held in the Sixth Chancery District, Place 1 (Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Kemper, Neshoba, Winston Counties), Twelfth Chancery District, Place 1 (Clarke and Lauderdale Counties), and Twelfth Circuit District, Place 2 (Forrest and Perry Counties) on November 4, 2025. The qualifying deadline for these elections is Feb. 3.
The special election announced for district attorney will be held in the First Circuit Court District (Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tishomingo Counties) Nov. 4. The qualifying deadline for this election is Sept. 5.
