Faith Shumaker was named 2022 Distinguished Young Woman of Neshoba County on Saturday during the annual program which was held at the Neshoba Central Elementary Auditorium.

She will represent Neshoba County in the State Distinguished Young Woman Program, which will be held in Meridian later this summer.

“I have been waiting so long for this,” Shumaker said. “I have been watching the program when I was little. When they called my name, it was like a dream.”

Shumaker performed a Lyrical Dance to “Hold On To Me” as her talent.

Other awards went to:

• Laurel Brantley, Spirit Award;

• Carlyn Vaughn, Self-Expression Award, Scholastic Award, third alternate;

• Sydney Sisson, second alternate;

• Mallory Chunn, Fitness Award; Talent Award, first alternate.

“The program was so much fun,” said Shumaker, who is a junior at Neshoba Central. “All of the girls had so much fun.”

Shumaker plans to major in communications when she goes to college and one day hopes to be a sports broadcaster.

“We have Rocket News at our school and they have a position for a sports broadcaster,” Shumaker said. “I am interested in looking at that next year to see if this is something I would truly like to do.”

When she is not at school, she spends a lot of time at dance practice. She likes sports and likes to go to the ball games, depending on the season.

Faith is the daughter of Reggie and Tammy Shumaker.
