Almost 20 drug arrests and twelve violent felonies were reported in the month of October, according to the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said that he expects arrest numbers to increase in the following months as he is able to work new hires into his staffing rotation.

“Right now we have more staff than we ever had,” Clark said. “We are close to being fully staffed and that means our charges, citations and arrests will go up.”

Clark said he counted 19 narcotics arrests; 10 for possession of a controlled substance, five for possession of drug paraphernalia and four for possession of marijuana.

“Keeping illegal drugs off of our streets is a top priority in keeping the community safe,” Clark said.

Clark said he counted four arrests for grand larceny and armed robbery a piece and recorded one aggravated assault in October. He said they had three malicious mischief arrests.

The Sheriff’s Office issued 77 misdemeanors and traffic citations. Topping the list were public drunk with 11 and driving with a suspended license at 10. These were followed closely by no drivers license with eight traffic citations issued and seven were issued for vehicles with an expired tag.

Clark’s numbers show that they issued five citations for careless driving and five DUIs. His office issued four citations for running a stop sign and four for uninsured motorist. They also issued three seatbelt violations, three failure to yield to blue lights and three misdemeanors for disorderly conduct.

Domestic violence-simple assault, profane language, disturbance, resisting arrest and traffic citations for improper equipment were all recorded at two.

Deputies issued one citation for reckless driving and had one charge each of littering, trespassing and false information.
