The Philadelphia Lady Tornadoes were eliminated from the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A girls state basketball tournament in a 61-40 loss to Bay Springs.

The Lady Tornadoes had opened the tournament with a 44-34 win over Wesson.

“We had a very productive season this year,” coach Danielle Spurlock said. “We had ups and downs, went through a rough patch of losing close games. But my girls kept working and getting better each and every game.

“We entered the district tournament as the bottom seed (No. 5), beat the No. 1 seed (Newton) and finished as number two in our district. We made a run in the playoffs to the second round, and it came to an end with a loss to Bay Springs,” Spurlock said.

“We will be graduating three seniors. We will be a young team coming back with lots of hope. It was a pleasure coaching these young ladies this year, and I can’t wait to see their potential in full bloom next year,” Spurlock said.

Zharia Leflore led the Lady Tornadoes with 26 points against Bay Springs.
