Scott Central pulls past Yellow Jackets to win bout 34-15

When the game buzzer sounded the Scott Central Rebels had defeated the Union Yellow Jackets by a score of 34-15.

The first half of the game was very competitive and exciting to watch. The first quarter was a great defensive battle between the two squads. The most promising offensive effort by the Yellowjackets ended in a fumble with 54 seconds left in the first quarter.

The second quarter began scoreless. Scott Central marched down the field and scored the first touchdown of the game. Jordon Strong of Scott Central threw a 39-yard touchdown pass with 9:27 left on the clock in the second quarter. The next scoring drive for the Rebels was a 41-yard pass from Strong to Murrell with 7:42 left in the first half.

As the game clock ticked to 2:05, Union quarterback Kenyon Clay scored for the Yellowjackets on a five-yard run. The scoring drought was finally over for the Jackets. At the half, Scott Central led 14-7.

Scott Central received the kickoff to begin the second half. They marched down the field and the drive ended with a three-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jordan Strong. The PAT was blocked by Union defenders. With 8:22 left in the third quarter, the Rebels led 20-7. The Rebels' second score in the third quarter was a two-yard run by Navonteque Strong. The attempted two-point conversion by the Rebels was no good. As the third quarter expired, Clay ran for a 45-yard touchdown and the two-point conversion was successful. Scott Central led 26-15.

Union went scoreless for the time remaining. The Rebels scored another rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion.

The Scott Central Rebels were led by quarterback Jordon Strong who threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another. Kenyon Clay led the Jackets with 21 carries 128 yards and two touchdowns. Kaleb Casey had three receptions for 20 yards.

Defensively, Clay had two sacks during the game. William Hughlett had eight solo tackles, Nate Killen had six solo tackles and three tackles for loss. Tristan Wallace had six solo tackles and two tackles for loss. Tank Harrison had three solo tackles and Ky’yon Harris had two solo tackles. Carlos Hickmon, Xavier Boler, Davarian McDonald, Jaylon Rogers, Matthew Lott and Cameron Hickman all had a solo tackle.

The Jackets will travel to play their next opponent, the Leake Academy Rebels, while the Scott Central Rebels will play the Mendenhall Tigers at home.
