Organizers are excited as Sandtown United Methodist prepares to host its first Wild Game dinner at the church this weekend.

Kiah Hitt, an organizer for the event, said the idea came to him right after Labor Day. Hitt had attended a similar event and pitched the idea to church officials.

“We have had some really good help from folks at the church getting this together,” Hitt said. “People have really stepped up.”

Hitt said all are invited to join the church on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. for their first Wild Game Night Extravaganza.

Hitt said the night will include a sampling of freshly prepared wild game dishes and stews with plenty of hamburgers and hotdogs to supplement any appetite. Hitt said they are currently set up to seat around 300 people but are prepared to set up additional chairs and expand from there.

The event space has been decorated with animal mounts including a coyote from church member Justin Copeland's personal collection.

The night will also include door prizes and raffles that will include items such as a griddle and deer feeder as well as four guns. Hitt said those who wish to enter the gun raffle will not have to be present as there will be further paperwork to go through to obtain the guns through Philadelphia Gun and Pawn.

Hitt said the most desirable gun up for the raffle is probably the Beretta shotgun. The raffles will raise money for the church.

In addition to prizes, good food and fellowship, the event will also feature speaker David Ellis. Ellis, better known as Yawt Yawt, makes turkey calls and tells hunting stories with a Christian message. He has been featured on the Rick and Bubba Show.

“We’d just love to have you and your family fellowship with us and hear God’s word in a slightly different way! Invite a friend,” a social media post from the church about the event reads.

Hitt enjoys hunting and is a certified National Rifle Association firearms instructor. He also enjoys competition shooting.

“I am really into all things fire arm related whether that is hunting or competition shooting,” Hitt said. “It has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.”

Hitt loves sharing his passions with his 15-year-old son, Owen Hitt. Hitt has been a member of Sandtown United Methodist for more than 30 years.

Sandtown United Methodist is located at 11950 Highway 482 northeast of Philadelphia. For more information go to the Sandtown Wild Game Night Extravaganza event page on Facebook.
