Graveside services for Sandra Carter Stokes were held Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery with Rev. Benny Alford officiating.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 

Ms. Sandra Stokes, 71, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Ms. Stokes was born and lived in Meridian, MS, until she was ten.  She then moved with her parents to Philadelphia, MS, and attended House Junior High and graduated from Neshoba Central High School in May of 1966.  She lived in Columbus, MS, where she worked as a secretary for Columbus Marble Works.  She returned to Philadelphia where she worked as a clerical assistant for Weyerhaeuser, U. S. Motors, and the Chancery Clerk’s office.  She worked as a secretary for Sunbeam in Waynesboro, MS.  She retired in 2013 from The City of Montgomery with the Montgomery Fire Department where she worked as a secretary.  She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Philadelphia, MS, before moving to Montgomery, AL.  There she was a member of Eastdale Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Daniels of Philadelphia, MS, Kimberly Story of Montgomery, AL, and Michelle Church of Cumming, GA; seven grandchildren, Leslie Tidwell, William Freeman, Morgan Story Holmes, Kayla and Hunter Story, Mackenzie and Carson Alfreds; three great-grandchildren, Leighton and Anthony Tidwell and Kellin Freeman.

Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her father, Roy Rudolph Carter in 2010, and her mother, Jane Peebles Carter in 2012; grandparents, Frank Leslie and Virgie (Posey) Carter, Claude and Roberta (Ray) Peebles.  

Pallbearers were Everett Story, Doug Church, Payton Holmes, William Freeman, Hunter Story, Carson Alfreds, and Johnny Peebles.
