Rockets win 2 to advance to 16-9 on year
As local softball and baseball teams start to wrap up the regular season, many hope to secure sports at the top of the region and district standings.
Neshoba Central baseball had a phenomenal week last week, picking up two-game sweeps over Vicksburg and Quitman, along with a 10-6 win over Meridian, to move to 16-9 on the season. The Rockets are currently in second place in Region 2-6A and will play Columbus on Tuesday and a doubleheader against New Hope on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
Neshoba Central softball beat Vancleave 11-1, East Central 3-2, and Ridgeland 18-0 last week, improving to 16-7 on the season. The Lady Rockets are 16-7, tied for first in the Region 2-6A standings, and will wrap up the regular season at Ridgeland on Tuesday and at home against West Jones on Thursday.
Choctaw Central baseball struggled last week, losing twice to Northeast Lauderdale and once to Choctaw County, falling to 4-16 on the year. The Warriors are now fourth in the Region 4-4A standings and will round out the regular season at Louisville on Tuesday.
Choctaw Central softball beat Columbus 21-0 and fell 6-5 to East Webster, moving to 15-7 on the season. The Lady Warriors are currently in second in the Region 4-4A standings and will round out the regular season with a three-game series against Amory on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Philadelphia baseball were swept by Eupora last week, falling to 6-7 on the season. The Tornadoes are currently fourth in the Region 4-2A standings and will finish the regular season at home against Noxubee County on Tuesday and with a doubleheader at East Union on Friday.
Philadelphia softball beat Columbus 24-14 and Kemper County 16-4, improving to 4-9 on the season. The Lady Tornadoes are currently fourth in the Region 4-2A standings and will wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader at Scott Central on Tuesday.
Union baseball swept Sebastopol and picked up an 11-1 win over Leake Central, improving to 14-8 on the season. The Yellow Jackets are currently second in the Region 4-2A standings and will finish the regular season at Hamilton on Saturday.
Union softball swept Sebastopol and beat Scott Central 16-1, improving to 16-10 on the year. The Lady Yellow Jackets have already secured the Region 4-2A regular season title and will finish the regular season with a two-game series against Walnut on Thursday and Saturday.
Leake Academy baseball picked up a three-game sweep over Park Place Christian Academy last week, improving to 18-6 on the season. The Rebels will play a three-game district series this week against East Rankin Academy on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
