Rockets improve to 3-1 in region standings

The Neshoba Central boys picked up a pair of Region 3-5A victories last week in prep basketball action.

The Rockets defeated Canton 50-48 last Tuesday, and then came back to defeat Cleveland Central 61-53. The Rockets improved to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the region.

The Neshoba Central girls won two of three games last week. They opened the week with a 52-51 victory over Starkville in the East Central Community College Martin Luther King Jr. basketball classic. The Lady Rockets then stopped Canton 66-33 but then lost a 43-37 decision to Cleveland Central. The Lady Rockets enter the week with a 7-9 overall record and 2-2 in the region.

Neshoba Central plays at Holmes County Central Tuesday. That is their only game this week.

The Neshoba Central boys rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off Canton.

The Tigers went up 15-10 in the first quarter. Neshoba Central outpointed the Tigers 10-9 in the second quarter but Canton led 24-20 at the half. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter. Then the Rockets put in 18 points in the fourth quarter while holding to Canton to 11 points in the final quarter and the Rockets took the win.

Coby McMillan led with 11 points while Jacob McMillan added 10.

Cleveland Central 55

The Rockets came on strong in the second half to knock off Cleveland Central.


The Tigers went up 16-11 in the first quarter. Cleveland outscored Neshoba Central 19-9 and led 35-20 at the half.

The Rockets outscored the Wolves 18-10 in the third quarter and trailed 45-38 going into the final quarter. Neshoba Central would out score Cleveland 23-8 in the final quarter to take the victory.

Coby McMillan led the Rockets with 20 points while Jacob McMillan added 12.



Lady Rockets 66

Canton 33

The Lady Rockets took control of the game in the first quarter and went on for the win.

Neshoba Central led 41-13 at the half.

Hama'ya Fielder led with 21 points and Shay Hunter added 12.



Cleveland 43

The Lady Rockets couldn't get their offense going until the fourth quarter and Cleveland Central held on for the win.

Cleveland led 10-6 after the first quarter. The Lady Wolves outscored Neshoba Central 8-6 in the second quarter and led18-12 at the half. Cleveland led 27-20 heading into the final quarter. Neshoba Central outpointed Cleveland 17-16 but the Lady Wolves held on for the win.

Fielder led with 12 points.
