The Neshoba Central basketball teams have three games slated for this week.

The Rocket teams were to play Canton on Tuesday, host Cleveland Central on Friday and then host Northeast Lauderdale on Saturday.

The Neshoba Central girls won two-out-of-three games last week. They defeated Canton 73-35. Then on Friday, the Lady Rockets defeated Pearl 77-74. On Saturday, in a makeup game, the Lady Rockets lost 54-51 to Cleveland Central in double overtime.

The Lady Rockets are currently ranked No. 3 in a state poll of Class 5A girls teams. Their record is 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the region standings.

The Neshoba Central boys played tough but went 0-2 last week. They dropped a 59-49 decision to Canton High School and 56-53 to Pearl.

The Neshoba Central girls led 33-13 at the half in their win over Canton. Hama’ya Fielder led with 23 points while Veronica Williams scored 11 points and Elleigh Willis added eight.

The Lady Rockets carried a 66-56 lead into the final quarter in their game against Pearl. The Lady Pirates battled back, outscoring Neshoba Central 16-11 in the final eight minutes of play. But Neshoba Central held on for the victory. Fielder led with 21 points. Shaylynn Hunter added 12 points while Onnahal Williams, Veronica Williams and Shanta Beaulieu all scored eight points.

Against Cleveland Central, the Lady Rockets led 26-21 at the half. But the Lady Wolves came back to tie the game at the end of regulation, 42-42. Both teams scored six points in the first overtime period. Cleveland outpointed the Lady Rockets 6-3 in the second overtime period to claim the win. Veronica Williams led with 13 points while Fielder scored 11 points and Hunter put in seven points.

Rockets

The Canton Tigers overcame a 29-18 halftime deficit to defeat the Rockets. Elijah Ruffin scored 19 points while David Nash scored 18.

Pearl took a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and that proved to be the difference in their win over the Rockets. Neshoba Central trailed 46-36 heading into the fourth quarter. The Rockets outscored Pearl 17-10 in the last eight minutes of play but fell short. Bryceton Spencer led with 14 points while David Nash and Zac Goodin both scored 10 points.
