Rebels pick up needed sweep in regional action

After losing five out of the last six games in district play, the Leake Academy Rebels got a much-needed sweep last week.

The Rebels took all three games from Park Place, winning 10-0 on Monday and Thursday with a 14-6 win squeezed in on Tuesday.

Leake improves to 18-6 on the season and will take on East Rankin this week in a three-game series to end the regular season. Game 1 will be on Tuesday in Madden with Game 2 on Thursday at East Rankin. Game 3 will return to Madden as the Rebels celebrate senior night.

Leake 10, Park Place 0

The Rebels got a one-hit shutout from Caden Stovall and cruised to a six-inning, run-rule win on Monday.

The Rebels scored one in the second and fifth and four runs in the third and sixth to take the win.

Leake outhit Park Place 11-1 in the contest as Matthew Nowell was 3-for-3 wit a double. Tanner Walsworth had a solo home run while Majure Chandler and Will Garner each doubled and scored two runs. Tanner Winstead also doubled for the Rebels.

Stovall pitched all six innings for the Rebels, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out five.

Leake 14, Park Place 6

The Rebels banged out 19 hits and cruised to an eight-run win over the Crusaders on Tuesday.

Leake scored six in the first and one in the second and led 7-0. After Park Place scored two in the third, Leake added four more in the third and led 11-2. Park Place scored four in the fifth but Leake finished with two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

The Rebels had a season-high 19 hits in the contest, led by Tanner Walsworth, who was 4-for-5 with two doubles and three runs score. Gage Warren was 3-for-5 and had four RBIs while Majure Chandler was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Tyler Winstead was 3-for-5 while Jack Harkins and Matthan Weaver each had two hits. Will Garner also doubled, scored twice and had two RBIs.

Garner started on the mound and pitched five innings and gave up six runs on seven hits while striking out five. Easton Page pitched the last two innings and gave up two hits and two walks.

The Rebels started fast and took a run-rule win over the Crusaders to sweep the series on Thursday.

Leake opened with 10 runs in the first inning and added one in the second and three in the fourth.

The Rebels had eight hits and took advantage of three walks and three errors. Majure Chandler was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs while Easton Page singled and drove in two runs. Will Garner doubled and scored twice while Tanner Walsworth singled and scored twice.

Matthew Nowell got his first start on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up one hit and three walks while striking out four. Chandler came and got the last two outs on a double play.
