Rebels improve to 8-4 in baseball

The Leake Academy baseball team picked up two more wins last week and improved to 8-2 on the season.

The Rebels beat Canton Academy 4-2 on Thursday and then beat Newton County Academy 6-2 on Friday. 

Leake will play two three games this week at East Central as they take on Forest at noon and Mendenhall at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rebels will then take on Pearl on Thursday at 4:30.

Leake will return from spring break and begin district play as they take on Winston Academy in a three-game series on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Leake Academy 4, 

Canton Academy 2

The Rebels used a big fourth inning and solid pitching to take a two-run win over Canton on Thursday.

Leake outhit Canton 7-5 in the contest. Bryce Watkins was 2-for-2 while Bishop Hardin hit a two-run home run. 

Watkins started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five. Rece Atkinson pitched two innings and gave up one hit and one walk while striking out three. Riley Myers pitched the last two innings and struck out four to pick up the save. 

Leake Academy 6, NCA 2

The Rebels jumped out to a quick lead and took a four-run win over the Generals on Friday. 

Leake outhit NCA 7-5 in the contest. Aiden Watkins was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs while Bishop Hardin was 2-for-4 with with an RBI. Charlie Brantley singled and drove in two runs. 

Rhett Atkinson started and pitched two innings and struck out three and walked two. Watkins pitched on inning and gave up one run on four walks and one hit while Jack Harkins pitched one inning and gave up one run on three hits. Brewer McClain pitched two innings and gave up one hit and two walks while striking out two. Matthew Nowell pitched the last inning and struck out two and walked one.
