Rebelettes win 2 games to improve to 11-0

The Leake Academy girls stayed unbeaten as they added a pair of wins over MHSAA schools last week.

Playing in the North Delta Tournament, the Lady Rebels beat Class 6A Southaven 64-38 on Monday and Class 3A North Panola 89-57 on Tuesday to improve to 11-0 on the season.

The Rebels only played one game last week, falling 64-45 to Tunica Academy.

Leake will return to action this week with a pair of games. Leake will host Canton on Monday and then play at Pillow Academy on Thursday. The following week will feature three games as Leake opens district play at Park Place on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and then will host Lamar on Friday, Dec. 10. Leake will then finish the week as they host Jackson Prep in a non-district contest on Saturday, Dec. 11.

The Rebelettes had little trouble with the Class 6A Lady Chargers on Monday at the North Delta Tournament.

The game was close in the first period as Leake led 17-14 at the end of the first. But the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Chargers 17-7 in the second and led 34-21 at the break. The Lady Rebels put the game away in the third period by outscoring Southaven 17-3 to lead 51-24 going to the fourth. Southaven took the fourth period 14-13 for the final margin.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 19 points, six steals, five assists and five rebounds, while Emeri Warren had 16 points, four rebounds and three steals. Morgan Freeny had 11 points, three steals and three rebounds, while Katye Jones had 8 points and five rebounds. Ella Bell had five points while Marleigh Myers had 4 points.

North Panola 57

The Lady Rebels pulled away with their best offensive game of the night to take a 32-point win.

Leake led just 19-16 at the end of the first period but outscored North Panola 32-18 in the second and led 51-34 at the half. Leake continued to build on its lead, outscoring North Panola 23-14 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth.

Leake shot 60% from the field, making 35 of 58 shots, including 12 3-pointers. 

Miriam Prince had 33 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals to lead Leake. Morgan Freeny had 17 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Emeri Warren had 16 points and four rebounds. Katye Jones had 8 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Grace Maxey had 6 points. Allen Kaye Wilcox also had five rebounds.

The Rebels fell behind early and dropped a 19-point decision to the Blue Devils last week.

Tunica jumped out to a 27-14 lead in the first period and outscored the Rebels 19-14 in the second to lead 46-28 at the half. Tunica extended the lead in the third, outscoring Leake 11-8 in the third to lead 57-36 going to the fourth. Leake took the fourth 9-7 for the final margin.

Samuel Prince led the Rebels with 20 points, while Jake Freeny and Henry Dabbs each had seven points apiece.
