Rebelettes earn first loss on the court

The Leake Academy girls saw their unbeaten season come to an end last week at the hands of rival Pillow on Thursday.

Playing without starters Miriam Prince and Katye Jones, Pillow outscored Leake in every period and took a 64-45 win over the Rebelettes on Thursday. Leake hammered Canton 70-19 in its other contest on Monday.

The Leake boys also split a pair of contests last week as they beat Canton 70-37 and fell to Pillow 45-44.

Leake will begin district play this week as they host Park Place on Monday and travel to Lamar School on Friday. They will finish the week on Saturday as they travel to Jackson Prep.

Pillow girls 64, Leake 45

The Lady Mustangs outscored the Rebelettes in every period and forced 18 turnovers to take a 19-point win on Thursday.

Pillow led 13-12 at the end of the and then outscored Leake 17-6 in the second to lead 30-18 at the half. Pillow continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored Leake 15-11 in the third and 19-16 in the fourth.

Morgan Freeny led Leake with 20 points and four assists while Emeri Warren had 11 points and three steals. Grace Maxey also had seven points.

Pillow boys 45, Leake 44

The Rebels had several chances to get the game winner but dropped a one-point decision to the Mustangs on Thursday.

Pillow led 10-8 at the end of the first and the game was tied at 17 at the half. Pillow outscored Leake 17-13 in the third to take a 34-30 lead into the half. Leake then outscored Pillow 14-11 in the fourth for the final margin.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 13 points while Aiden Watkins had 12 points. 

Leake girls 70, 

Canton 19

The Rebelettes outscored the Lady Panthers in every period as they cruised to a 51-point win on Monday.

Leake jumped out to a 35-8 lead in the first period and then outscored Canton 14-2 in the second to lead 49-10 at the half. Leake then outscored Canton 11-2 in the third and 10-7 in the fourth to take the win.

Grace Maxey led Leake with 20 points and three steals while Marleigh Myers and Morgan Freeny each had 11 points apiece. Olivia Rudolph had five points, four rebounds and three steals while Emeri Warren also chipped in five points.

Leake boys 70, 

Canton 37

The Rebels pulled away in the middle two periods and took a 33-point win over the Panthers.

Leake led 12-11 at the end of the first but then outscored Canton 20-7 and led 32-18 at the half. Leake then put the game away in the third, outscoring Canton 23-7 to lead 55-25 going to the fourth. Leake took the fourth 13-12 for the final margin.

Samuel Prince led Leake with a career high 30 points while Aiden Watkins had 12 points. Whitt Welch and Jake Freeny each had eight points.
