Rebelettes complete undefeated district run

The Leake Academy Rebelettes completed an undefeated run through district play with two more wins this past week.

The Rebelettes beat Winston 77-48 and East Rankin 65-28 to finish out district play. Leake Academy finished the regular season with a 71-51 win over Hillcrest Christian on Friday.

The Rebels won two out of three contests last week with a pair of last-minute wins. The Rebels beat Winston 57-55 and East Rankin 47-46 before falling 92-41 to Hillcrest on Friday.

The Rebelettes, now 28-1 on the season, are the No. 1 seed in this week’s district tournament. They will play the winner between East Rankin and Lamar on Thursday at 4 p.m. The girls championship game is set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Rebels will play East Rankin on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. and the winner of that game will play Heritage Academy on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.

Winston 48

The Rebelettes outscored the Lady Patriots in every period as they took a 29-point win over the Lady Patriots.

Leake led 18-11 at the end of the first and 39-25 at the half. Rebelettes continued to extend the lead in the second half, outscoring the Lady Patriots 19-8 in the third and 19-15 in the fourth.

Ashley Smith led Leake with 18 points and nine rebounds while Emmi Harkins had 16 points, three steals and three assists. Mabry Mayfield had 15 points and eight rebounds while Savanna Greer had eight points and Emeri Warren added six points and four rebounds.

Winston 55

The Rebels held on to take a two-point win over the Patriots on senior night on Tuesday.

Leake led 18-12 at the end of the first and outscored Winston 19-14 in the second to lead 37-26 at the half. Winston outscored Leake 13-4 in the third to cut the lead to 41-39. Each team scored 16 points in the fourth as Leake held on to take the win.

Ben Harrison led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Henry Dabbs had 11 poi’s while Reed Young had nine points. Hagan Pike had eight points while Whitt Welch added seven points and Hagan Davis added six points.

East Rankin 28

The Rebelettes dominated the first half action as they took a 37-point win over the Lady Patriots on Thursday.


Leake dominated early, outscoring East Rankin 21-7 in the first and 25-6 in the second to lead 46-13 at the half. Leake continued to extend its lead int he second half, outscoring East Rankin 12-9 in the third and 7-6 in the fourth.

Leake hit nine 3-pointers in the contest as Miriam Prince and Ashley Smith each had 14 points apiece. Morgan Freeny had 11 points while Mabry Mayfield had nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. Emmi Harkins had nine pints and four assists while McKinley Allen chipped in five points.

East Rankin 46

The Rebels got a last-second shot from Hagan Davis to take a one-point win over the Patriots on Thursday.

Leake led 16-10 at the end of the first and 26-17 at the half. East Rankin outscored Leake 14-8 in the third to cut the lead to 34-31 going into the third. Leake led by as many as six in the fourth before East Rankin hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the game to take a two-point lead. Davis then gave the Rebels the win with a three at the buzzer.

Ben Harrison led Leake with 23 points while Henry Dabbs added eight points.

Hillcrest Christian 51

After trailing in the first period, the Rebelettes puled away to take 20-point win over the Lady Cougars on Friday to close out the regular season.

Hillcrest led 10-5 at the end of the first before outscoring the Lady Cougars 23-13 to take a 28-23 lead at the half. Leake pulled away in the second half as they outscored Hillcrest 24-16 in the third and 19-12 in the fourth to take the win.

Ashley Smith had a season-high 19 points, four rebounds and four assists in the win while Mabry Mayfield had 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Emmi Harkins had 12 points, six steals, six assists and four rebounds while Morgan Freeny had 11 points. Miriam Prince had 10 points while Savanna Greer had six points and five rebounds. Laura Katherine Clair also had six rebounds for the Rebelettes.



Hillcrest boys 92

The Cougars outscored the Rebels in every period and took a 51-point win on Friday.

Hillcrest led 22-15 at the end of the first and 37-29 at the half. Hillcrest pulled away in the second half, outscoring Leake 27-6 in the third and 18-6 in the fourth.

Henry Dabbs led Leake with 10 points while Whitt Welch had eight points. Hagan Davis had seven points while Parker Thomas added six points.
