Philadelphia police said they expect more arrests to be made in connection to the Aug. 2 arrest of an ex-Yazoo City police officer here on rape-assault and kidnapping charges.

Austin Davis, 22, of 1439 Myrieville Road, Yazoo City, was arrested by Philadelphia police and charged on Aug. 2 with kidnapping and rape-assault with intent to ravish.

Philadelphia police Chief Eric Lyons said the incident was reported in late July by a local woman. He said that there are other suspects involved in the case who also live out of town. He said that bringing other suspects in for questioning has proved difficult as the other suspects involved are not from Philadelphia though the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated.

Davis was brought into the jail at 8:17 p.m. Aug. 2 and bonded out the following evening, Aug. 3, records from the Winston-Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility in Louisville show.

Davis was being held on a $75,000 bond, records show.

The Yazoo Herald reported that Davis was fired last Tuesday after his charges were brought before the city board.

The Herald quoted Yazoo City Interim Police Chief Joey Head as saying that in addition to the charges, Davis’ termination was also based on his failure to complete minimum standards of the training academy.

“The Board of Mayor and Aldermen were made aware of these charges from another community,” Head said. “During a special call meeting last week, Davis was terminated based on the allegations and the severity of the charges. Along with the charges, his termination was also based on his failure to complete the minimum standards of the training academy.”
