Brandy Hitt, CPO, of Mississippi Eye Care in Philadelphia was named a finalist for the 2020 Beverly Roberts MOA Paraoptometric of the Year.

The award is presented annually by the Mississippi Optometric Association (MOA) to recognize significant contributions to the profession of optometry and the general public. Ms. Hitt was also a finalist for the Paraoptometric Community Service Award. The finalists and winners were recognized at the MOA’s annual Fall Conference.

Paraoptometrics are health care professionals who assist optometrists in providing the highest level of vision care to their patients. They serve as opticians, optical technicians, insurance clerks, clerical staff, personal assistants, and receptionists.

Ms. Hitt, the office manager for the Philadelphia and Union branches of MS Eye Care, earned her Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) certification in 2020. She received her Associates Degree in Ophthalmic Technology from East Mississippi Community College. Her responsibilities include managing daily staffing needs for two clinics, management of the optical finishing lab and optical dispensary, overseeing payroll entry, and implementing marketing strategies.

Her community outreach includes organizing a Back to School drive to provide school supplies for area students. She also oversees an initiative that provides 39 area school nurses with eyecare products and triage instructions. She also participates in health fairs, vision screenings, and fundraising.

“Brandy is an asset to our business but most importantly to our profession. She is hardworking, giving of her time and energy, knowledgeable of our profession, always wanting to learn more, and has a kind heart,” said Emily Fleming, OD.

Outside of the office, she is an active member of Sandtown United Methodist Church where she is chairman of the Benevolence Committee and Recording Secretary of the Administrative Board. She is a fundraising volunteer with Leake Academy. She is a dedicated wife and mother.
