Philadelphia Utilities flushing pipes to fix dirty water

Philadelphia Utilities began flushing its water system Monday in an effort to resolve an ongoing issue with dirty water.

This is expected to go on through Nov. 17. This will be done by opening fire hydrants each day in different locations.

The dirty water problem is not widespread but continues to come up almost randomly throughout the city. Philadelphia Utilities has flushed water from the system over the years but this is a more planned effort.

"We will rotate it around in an effort to get out any mud that is in the system," said general manager Kirk Morgan. "This has been a frustrating problem. The issues that come up seem random and never the same.

Anyone having problems should call Philadelphia Utilities at 601-656-1121.
