Philadelphia runs away with 34-26 win over Forest

The Philadelphia Tornadoes looked like Philly teams of the past as they pounded out more than 300 rushing yards in their 34-26 victory over Forest Friday night in prep football action.

The Tornadoes has now two games in a row and improve to 2-4, counting two forfeit games. Forest fell to 4-2.

“Forest is good team and played us hard,” Coach David Frey said. “In the last couple of games, our running game has really carried us. We have some young guys who have stepped up and played well. Yes, you could say we are back to being a running team.”

Forest scored first on its second possession. After recovering a fumble on the Philadelphia 40 yard line, Dashun Lofton connected with Rockey Washington on a 40-yard TD pass play. The extra point was good and the Bearcats led 7-0.

The Tornadoes came back to score a touchdown of their own as quarterback Marcus Beamon connected on a 65-yard TD pass to Chancellor Greer ran 35 yards for a touchdown. Connor Long’s kick was good and the score was tied with 6:53 left in the first quarter.

Washington put the Bearcats back on the scoreboard when he caught a 43-yard TD pass play. The extra point try failed and Forest led 13-7 with 4:35 left in the first quarter.

The Tornadoes took the ensuing kickoff and drove down to tie the game. Chancellor scored on a 15-yard run. The kick failed and the game was tied at 13-13.

In the second quarter, Forest drove down to the Tornado one-yard line but could break through the Tornado defense.

Philadelphia pushed the ball out to their 25-yard line. Then Kadarius Calloway bolted for a 75-yard run. The kick was good and the Tornadoes led went up 20-13 with a pass to Calloway later in the second quarter. Long’s kick was good and the Tornadoes led 27-13.

Washington scored on another Forest TD pass right before the half and the score stood at 27-20 at the intermission.

Calloway scored again in the second half to put his team up 34-20. Forest scored late in the fourth quarter.

Philadelphia will be back in action Friday night when they visit the Newton Tigers. Newton comes in at 4-2 with two forfeit wins.
