A Kosciusko woman was arrested here early Monday morning after she was caught with drugs in a parking lot on Beacon Street, the authorities said.

The woman, Battina C. Rice, 43, 716 Fairground Street, Kosciusko, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said an officer encountered Rice on Monday, April 17, at about 5 a.m. He said the officer was patrolling along Beacon Street near the U Save Car Rental. The officer observed a vehicle in the parking lot with lights on and made contact with the driver.

After speaking with the driver, who was identified as Rice, the officer searched the vehicle and recovered methamphetamine inside the vehicle, according to Lyons.

She was then transported to the Neshoba County Jail on a warrant from the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Eric Clark said the warrant for Rice was for petit larceny issued by the Justice Court on Feb.16.
